Junot Diaz author of  the fictional novel "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao", uses a horrendous emotional and physical trauma going  on their country of origin the Dominican Republican to emphasizes the reason why Oscar's Mom "Hypatia Belcia Carbral" known as "Beli" move to  New York because of the curse that was put on their family. Beli's lost all her family who was killed by Trujillo, which was why she moved to New York to start a new life. Beli moved to new York as a young girl to get away from the this that she had went through as a child and did not express it to anybody  "Of those nine years (and of the Burning) Beli did not speak"(Page 257) she does this to forget about her past even though it follows her throughout the story. She felt safe "only sanctuary, a world of safety she thought possible" (Page 260) because of how cruel her family  was threatened in their homeland, It made her more aware of her life and protective of her children Oscar and Lola. even though Beli went through a horrible experience it made her 'endure, turned out to be most a apt pupil"(page 259). This show how the author made it more realistic connecting it to make it seem like the family history similar to what happens today.
